The tasting at Empress Jade at the Jewel Box started with:
Deep Fried Tofu with Fermented Bean Sauce.
The bland tofu goes well with the sauce.
Traditional Smoked Fish with Summer tomatoes salad flavored with truffle infused sea salt.
plwh888 really like the smoked fish, the crispy skin and the flavorful soy sauce. The tomatoes salad provides a nice balance.
Crispy baby squid with a savory sauce
The sauce is a tad too savory for plwh888, otherwise the squid are crispy and very nice.
Refreshing salad of baby black fungus with assorted vegetables
This is probably an acquired taste, plwh888 finds the salad dressing a bit too tangy.
Crispy Chicken boxing marinated with 'Nan Yu'
plwh888 didnt find anything special with it, just good old fried chicken drumlet.
Double-boiled pork and pigeon mousse with mushroom infused with Shao Xing Wine.
This is FIVE STARS !!! plwh888 totally loves this soup, it has got all the ingredients that he loves, totally comfort food.
Fried Caramelized King Prawns 'har lok'
Another FIVE STARS dishes, perfect, just like the way plwh888's mum would have cooked it.
Steamed White Pomfret, Teochew style
Usually this is served whole fish, but since we are tasting it, it came in this interesting plastic bags to seal in the flavor.
Pork Liver with spring onions and ginger in claypot
Quite a surprise to find this dish in a mid-end restaurant. I'm not really into liver but this is very good and plwh888 ate 2 pieces, that tells you how good it is !
Stir-fried char-siew with long beans, dried shrimps, tofu and 'choy poh'
The lettuce provides a good crunch to the soft fillings.
Old fashion Whampoa fried noodles with prawns and scrambled eggs
plwh888 totally love love love the noodles and can live without the prawns and scrambled eggs. The noodles is pre-fried and one can taste the Wok-heat.
Traditional cream of almond soup with sesame rice dumplings
plwh888 like it that they provide some almond nuts to go it. The soup is just nice without being too watery. The rice dumplings are soft to the bite and the sesame paste is just nice without being too sweet.
Overall the food is good, plwh888 will go back there just for the Soup alone, and oh, the fabulous view of the harbour and neighboring islands.
Price-wise is Affordable, dishes start from $10 per portion.
